Find your horse-drawn carriage at the Michaelerplatz stand and begin your journey to the former seat of government of the Habsburg Monarchy, the Hofburg Palace. Today, the President and Chancellor of the Republic of Austria have their offices in this impressive complex. Drive along the beautiful boulevard “Der Ring,” where you can see the buildings of the Natural History Museum and the Art History Museums. On the square between the two buildings stands the statue of Maria Theresa, the only female ruler of the House of Habsburg. Drive past the Austrian Parliament, which was built in the Greek architectural style and in front of which stands the statue of Pallas Athena. Just behind the Parliament, you will see Vienna City Hall with its impressive square. The square in front of City Hall is very popular with the Viennese, and many events such as the annual film festival and Christmas markets take place there. End your tour back at Michaelerplatz, where it began.
